a Bronze Gate valve and a Cast Iron Swing Check valve
The 2 valves were installed on the water mains entering our factory
since 2005. The inspection takes place in 2015.

Ten years later when we checked both valves Valvomec Bronze Gate valve, with the exception of a light oxidation common to bronze, did not show any build-up of deposits on the internal surface, the sealing seat was completely clean and guaranteeing a perfect sealing, the handwheel opening/closing operation could still be properly performed.
The seal is perfectly guaranteed, and then the Bronze Valve is able to perfectly perform its fluid shutoff function.

Ten years later the internal surface of the Cast Iron Swing Check valve showed a big build-up of deposits and the hinged disc was completely blocked.
So the Cast Iron Swing Check valve was not able anymore to perform its function of preventing a water back-flow.

When we chose a valve we consider the fluid controlled and, in our case, the water quality expected at the point of use.

Evalutation of the real costs
The two valves have very different costs; the Cast Iron valve can be 70% cheaper than the Bronze valve
but trying to save money at the end proved to be a mistake…
